Since the roll out of electrical light in private homes a really long time ago, these kind of candle holders have become a bit obsolete. I do not know the proper English name for a candle holder like this. A hand sconce? A carry-around-candle stick? Help me out please.

But back in the day, around 1900, this was your night light, the light you were reading a book by. Or that you took with you if you had to go to the bathroom in the night. In Dutch we call them: blakers.

They were considered dull and out of fashion for a long time. Brass, only holding 1 candle. Old fashioned grandmotherly thing. Not interested.

But since a coupe of years, both brass and 'blakers' are back, a bit. And this is a very well crafted Dutch specimen, from around 1900.  Could do with a polish, but is lovely as it is as well.

Dimensions: height 8 cm, 3,14 inch,  foot diameter 9 cm/ 3,5 inch, length including handle 18 cm/ 7 inch.
